YONKERS LATINO POLITICAL ACTION CLUB CONDEMNS DOUBLE STANDARD IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

YONKERS, NY — The Yonkers Latino Political Action Club is deeply concerned by what many Americans view as a growing double standard in the application of justice and political accountability in our nation.

Recent reports regarding the sentencing of Texas protesters to a lengthy prison term have once again raised important questions about fairness, consistency, and equal treatment under the law. Americans deserve a justice system that applies the same standards to everyone regardless of political affiliation.

The contrast is particularly striking when compared to the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol. On that day, individuals breached the Capitol, assaulted law enforcement officers, disrupted the peaceful transfer of power, and threatened elected officials. The attack resulted in injuries to numerous police officers and represented one of the most serious assaults on our democratic institutions in modern American history.

Yet many of those convicted in connection with January 6 have been celebrated as patriots by political leaders and have received pardons.

This contradiction raises legitimate concerns among Americans who believe that justice should not depend on politics.

“The rule of law must be applied fairly and consistently,”

“Whether an individual is a protester, a political activist, or a participant in a violent attack on democratic institutions, accountability should be determined by the facts and the law—not by political loyalty.”

The Yonkers Latino Political Action Club believes that democracy depends upon equal justice, respect for constitutional principles, and accountability for all who violate the law. Americans deserve leaders who defend these principles regardless of political party.

As our nation approaches future elections, we urge citizens to remain vigilant in protecting democratic institutions, civil liberties, and the principle that no person is above the law.
